What data is collected, and why

RetroRift has no user accounts, no sign-up and no contact form. We never ask for your name, e-mail address or any other directly identifying data. The data below is collected automatically as you browse.

1. Data strictly necessary for the service

Your language choice is stored in a cookie (hg_lang) so we can send you to the French or English version of the site. This data never leaves the site, is not used for profiling, and relies on our legitimate interest in providing a working service. No consent is required for this cookie.

2. Browsing and advertising data

RetroRift is funded by advertising. If — and only if — you consent, our advertising partners set cookies and similar technologies on your device and may collect:

• your IP address (which allows approximate city- or country-level geolocation)
• cookie identifiers and unique advertising identifiers
• pages viewed, date and time of viewing, visit duration and referring site
• information about your device and software: device type, operating system, browser, screen resolution, language
• your interactions with the ads displayed (impression, click)

Purposes. This data is used to display ads, to personalise them to your interests where you have agreed, to measure their performance and reach, to cap how often the same ad is shown to you, and to detect fraud and invalid clicks.

Legal basis. Your consent, collected before any non-essential cookie is set (GDPR article 6(1)(a)). You may withdraw it at any time, as easily as you gave it.

If you refuse, ads are still displayed but are not personalised: they rely only on the content of the page you are viewing and on your approximate location, with no profiling and no tracking of your browsing.

Cookies set by Google and its advertising partners

This site uses Google AdSense, Google’s advertising network. As a result:

• Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
• Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites.
• Third-party vendors and Google advertising partners — the full, up-to-date list is shown in the consent window — may also set their own cookies and process your data for the same purposes.

Recipients and transfers outside the European Union

The browsing data described above is shared with Google (Google Ireland Limited for users in the European Economic Area, and Google LLC) and with the third-party vendors you have accepted in the consent window. The site publisher neither sells nor rents any data.

The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. (United States), which technically processes the requests and server logs needed to deliver the pages.

These operations may involve a transfer of data to the United States. They are governed by the safeguards in chapter V of the GDPR: European Commission standard contractual clauses and/or certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, depending on the provider.

Retention period

• Language cookie (hg_lang) : 12 months from the date it is set.
• Your consent choice : kept for at most 6 months, in line with the French data protection authority’s recommendation, after which you are asked again.
• Advertising and measurement cookies : at most 13 months from the date they are set; the browsing data derived from them is kept for at most 25 months. Each vendor’s own periods are detailed in the consent window and in Google’s documentation.

Your rights

Under articles 15 to 22 of the GDPR, you have the following rights over your personal data:

• Right of access — obtain confirmation that your data is processed, and receive a copy of it.
• Right to rectification — have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.
• Right to erasure — request deletion of your data, in the cases provided for by the regulation.
• Right to object — object at any time to your data being processed for marketing or advertising profiling.
• Right to data portability — receive the data you provided in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, and transmit it to another controller.
• Right to restriction — request that processing be temporarily frozen.
• Withdrawal of consent — withdraw your consent to advertising cookies at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

How to exercise these rights

You will receive a reply within one month of receipt, extendable by two months for complex requests. Proof of identity may be requested if there is reasonable doubt about who is making the request.

Security and minors

The site is served exclusively over HTTPS. The publisher builds no user database and stores no personal data on its own servers.

RetroRift is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data about minors under 15. If you are the legal guardian of a minor and believe data about them has been collected, contact us and it will be deleted.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated to reflect changes to the site, to our partners or to the applicable regulations. The last update date is shown at the bottom of this page. Where changes are substantial, your consent will be requested again.
